Bioware release beta patch for Dragon Age II (PC)

Dragon Age IIVersion 1.01 of this beta patch is an attempt to address a number of issues in the game, like save game corruption on single-core CPU machines. Bioware stress that the patch is still in beta form and untested, so they urge people only to use it if they are experiencing any of the issues this patch is supposed to resolve. If you’re not having any of the problems below then it is recommended you wait for the finished version of this update.

The bugs are only affecting the PC version of the game. If you are playing on Mac, PS3 or Xbox you don’t need to be concerned. You can download the patch here.

From the Bioware forums:

What are the patch notes?
GENERAL

  • Fixed save game issues on single core machines
  • Fixed game asking for non-existent drives
  • Fixed release control issues where some players were unable to unlock correctly

What does BETA mean?
BETA means:

  • Users apply this patch at their own risk. In general, we recommend you only download and apply it if you are affected by the specific issues listed in the patch notes.
  • **Steam does not support BETA patches. Steam users will have to wait for the final non-BETA patch before they can take advantage of these fixes. We’re working on it but, unfortunately, this will not occur in time for the weekend.

Dragon Age II out now

Dragon Age IIDragon Age II, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2009′s uber popular Game of the Year Dragon Age: Origins is out now.

Valve and Amazon have been taking pre-orders since January but the release date is finally here. Those who pre-ordered with Bioware will have access to additional in-game content, such as:

Fadeshear

The core of this blade is old. As old as the first smiths who sought a way to battle the nightmares from the land beyond. It has fought the demonic hosts in countless battles. Sometimes it has been held high in triumphant victory. Other times, it has lain broken besides its dying owner. But after every defeat it has always been reclaimed, reforged, and made stronger. Fadeshear has passed through many hands before yours. Now it is your turn to make the demons of the Fade pay for crossing the Veil into the waking world.

Features:

  • Improves with level-up
  • Additional damage vs. demons and undead

The Lion of Orlais

At the height of the Summer War all of Orlais was embroiled in fierce battles. Over the course of the war dozens of contenders for the Imperial Throne emerged – most long forgotten except as footnotes in scholarly tomes. But everyone remembers the gallant young lord Emile Deveraux, “The Golden Prince”. Thought outnumbered at every turn, he racked victory upon victory culminating in the Seventh Battle of Roses. While wearing this shield he broke through his uncle’s vanguard to win the day. He never knew the taste of defeat, instead meeting his end at the hands of a jealous lover in the dead of night.

Features:

  • Two rune slots
  • Adds to health
  • Adds to % XP gain

The Black Emporium

Features:

  • A magic item store that has some of the best equipment you’ll find in the game. It’s restocked with better items as you progress through the story.
  • A loyal mabari hound that fights at your side in battle.
  • The “Mirror of Transformation”. Gaze into it and you can change your very appearance. Hair, eyes, tattoos, and more can be changed with the click of a button.
  • A crafting store which sells powerful unique recipes.
  • Explore the Black Emporium and uncover its strange secrets and lore. Be sure to see its strange proprietor. It should prove most… memorable.

Don’t forget to check out Rob’s preview of the Facebook game. You can of course still grab the demo of DAII from Bioware, which on completion will allow you to unlock items in the full game.
